Arts Beyond the Classroom

Arts Beyond the Classroom

Families from two primary schools in east London embarked on an exploration of arts and culture in the capital. Eelyn Lee was commissioned to document their journey.

Over 12-weeks Eelyn ran workshops in film-making and blogging, encouraging parents and children to interview each other about their experiences and to share their thoughts on a blog. The result was a lively blogsite populated by user generated content including over 30 video clips and 100's of photos.

Working with a film crew Eelyn also captured the more intimate journeys of three sets of mums and their children as they explored the museums, galleries and theatres of London. Using extracts from blog entries to create the narrative for a 30-minute film Eelyn merges two forms of documentation to create a kind of film journal of the project.

The film was screened at the Tate Modern.
