We have completed editing the short film that charts the progress of three of the winners from Westfield's Studio East programme - from initial commission, through the design process, to final installation. The filming and interviewing was done by our young filmmakers, Constant Pictures. Watch the full story here.
The deadline for applying to this year's intake for Constant Pictures is now 25th October. We're still accepting applications for budding filmmakers to work with us on real commissions. As well as documentary filmmaking and promos we will be focussing on VJ-ing and video installation for key events leading up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Apply via the A New Direction website.
Ahead of the grand opening at Westfield Stratford City our young filmmakers, Constant Pictures filmed the concierge staff being fitted with their specially commissioned uniforms by fashion designer Julian J Smith. Director Eugene Osei said 'I'd be happy to walk out in one of those suits, they look good'. Constant Pictures have been following the East London designer's journey through the commission process. Find out more about it here.
This week Constant Pictures shot an interview with product designer Lee Broom [above] as his specially commissioned lights were installed at the new Westfield shopping centre in Stratford, East London. Inspired by jewelry and re-appropriating fairground light bulbs, the lights add a unique touch to the retail centre which opens next month. Find out more about the Westfield Studio East commission here.
Constant Pictures, our production team of young filmmakers aged between 15 and 25 successfully recruited six new members this Autumn. They have already been busy making a short film to promote a new online publication, Creativity Money Love as well as working on their own 1 minute films about the Olympic Host Boroughs. Each film focusses on a young person who either lives or works in the borough. Watch the first one here that puts the spotlight on Jareth, an upcoming musical talent who records in Hackney.
For the third year running we've been commissioned to continue supporting and up-skilling our young filmmakers, Constant Pictures. A New Direction are now recruiting young creatives to join Headstart, their year-long leadership programme that helps 15-25 year olds learn about, and shape the culture of their city. Constant Pictures are the filmmaking arm of Headstart. Check out the trailer that we made above.
We're looking forward to working with some fresh young filmmaking talent in the run up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games which will provide some exciting opportunities. Get involved! Apply online here.
Over the next couple of weeks we will be supporting our young filmmakers Constant Pictures film the final stages of their commission from Westfield Stratford City. The new shopping centre is set to open on 13th September. Preview the newly commissioned uniforms by fashion designer Julian J Smith in the film above and find out more about what inspires him here.
We are supporting the young filmmakers to document the winners of the Westfield Studio East Competition. It has involved them interviewing Mary Portas and winners selected by Tracey Emin and designer Tom Dixon. Stage three filming starts next week when we film the installation of Lee Broom's specially commissioned lighting at the new shopping centre in Stratford which opens in September.
Our Associate Young Filmmakers, Constant Pictures have just completed a trilogy of 1 minute films. Each film is a self-portrait exploring personal relationships to London, creativity and opportunity. The films were commissioned by A New Direction who will be screening them at various events in London and we will be submitting them to short film festivals. Watch Ifthekar's film here.
